How To Prevent Clutter Build Up During The Holidays

Preventing clutter buildup during the holidays can be a challenge, but with some mindful planning and intentional actions, it's definitely possible. Here are some tips to help you keep clutter at bay during the festive season:

1. **Set Clear Boundaries**: Decide in advance with the fam, how much new stuff you're willing to bring into your home. Before the holidays, take stock of what you already have and make a plan for what you truly need or want to add.

2. **One In, One Out Rule**: For every new item that enters your home during the holidays (gifts, decorations, etc.), consider removing an old or unused item. This helps maintain balance and prevents unnecessary accumulation.

3. **Gift Experiences and Consumables**: Consider giving experiences or consumable gifts rather than physical items. This could include tickets to events, gift cards for restaurants, or homemade treats. These types of gifts are usually appreciated and don't contribute to long-term clutter. And who doesn’t love a mince pie made from scratch?!

4. **Mindful Decorating**: Opt for quality over quantity when it comes to holiday decorations. Choose a few meaningful, high-quality items rather than an abundance of cheap, disposable decorations. After the holidays, store them properly for future use. It’s worth investing in a nice, durable holiday decor bag for storage.

5. **Regular Decluttering Sessions**: Schedule regular decluttering sessions before, during, and after the holidays (with us preferably 🤪) This can help you stay on top of things and prevent clutter from building up. Donate, recycle or maybe re-gift items you no longer need or use.

6. **Digital Gifts**: Consider giving digital gifts such as e-books, music, or streaming service subscriptions. These gifts won't take up physical space, and they can be enjoyed without contributing to clutter.

7. **Create Memories, Not Clutter**: Rather than focusing on material possessions, prioritize creating memories with your loved ones. Plan experiences like outings, game nights, or crafting sessions that will create lasting memories without adding physical clutter.

8. **Gift Wrapping Alternatives**: Consider using reusable or recyclable gift wrapping options to minimize waste and clutter. Fabric gift bags, decorative boxes, or reusable cloth wraps are eco-friendly alternatives to traditional wrapping paper. If you love the look and feel of traditional wrapping paper, opt for brown butcher paper and spruce it up with some string and fresh holly. (My personal fave)

By implementing these strategies, you can enjoy a festive and joyful holiday season while keeping clutter under control. Remember, the key is to be mindful of what comes into your home and to regularly assess and remove items that no longer serve a purpose.

With that said..Happy Holidays!!
